A distinct industrial input

Clinker is not finished cement. It is the kiln-produced intermediate that is ground with gypsum and, depending on the cement formulation, other constituents to make cement. For procurement, the distinction matters: an acceptable clinker must fit the buyer’s production requirements, not simply meet a generic description.

Nexus reviews clinker requests on the basis of the technical criteria supplied by the receiving plant. The proposed source, analysis information and shipment conditions are brought together in a commercial offer. We do not publish a universal clinker specification as though all producers supplied an identical product.

Chemical and mineralogical review

The technical brief may address oxide composition, free lime, alkalis and any other parameters required by the buyer. Where mineralogical indicators such as C₃S, C₂S or C₃A are requested, the basis of reporting must be clear: calculated values and measured phase analysis should not be treated as equivalent without technical review.

A producer analysis is a starting point for evaluation. The buyer’s technical team remains responsible for assessing suitability for its process and target cement. Any required trial, sample evaluation or additional test should be agreed before final acceptance of the material.

Bulk shipment planning

Clinker shipments are assessed around the proposed cargo size, loading port and receiving terminal. The enquiry should identify vessel limits, available handling equipment, storage arrangements and the target loading and discharge rates. Cargo readiness and the proposed shipment window need to remain aligned.

Nexus coordinates the relevant commercial and shipping parties within the agreed scope. Freight options are evaluated for the actual route rather than inferred from a standard rate. Any quantity tolerance, weighing method or inspection requirement should be recorded in the commercial agreement.

Sampling, acceptance and traceability

The parties should agree where samples are taken, who takes them, how retained samples are identified and which laboratory method is used. The acceptance mechanism belongs in the contract, including any procedure for resolving conflicting results. A historical sample analysis does not certify a future shipment.

The shipment document set is confirmed individually and can include the invoice, bill of lading, origin documentation, producer analysis and any agreed inspection report. Nexus coordinates document collection and consistency without replacing the producer’s technical responsibility or the inspector’s independent findings.

Supply proposal and contractual scope

A quotation is prepared for a defined product, quantity, origin and destination. The agreed delivery term, named port or place, shipment period, payment conditions and required documents should appear together in the offer. Availability is checked for that requirement; catalogue information does not reserve production or cargo space.

Changes to specification, packaging, destination or timing may require the technical and commercial proposal to be reviewed. We encourage buyers to share these constraints early. A complete brief gives Nexus a better basis for comparing supply options and preparing a proposal that reflects the actual receiving requirements.

The buyer should identify the intended cement range and the parameters its technical team needs to assess the proposed clinker.

Nexus uses that brief to structure the sourcing enquiry. A change of origin should be treated as a material for technical review, not as an automatically interchangeable substitute. The grinding plant remains responsible for validating its formulation and process; Nexus does not promise a finished cement performance from a generic clinker description.

Agree how the analytical profile will be assessed

A useful enquiry distinguishes chemical composition, calculated indicators and physical characteristics. Where C₃S or C₂S figures are requested, state whether they are calculated values or results of a specified analytical method. Ask the producer to identify the method and reporting basis rather than comparing numbers with different meanings.

The agreed specification can also address free lime, moisture, particle size and any limits set by the receiving plant. A historic analysis helps review an origin, but the contract should identify the documentation associated with the proposed shipment. Sampling arrangements, retained samples and any independent verification should be discussed before loading, not after a difference appears.

Plan the cargo and the mill's intake together

State the expected shipment quantity, the receiving stock capacity and any restrictions on unloading or inland transfer. A vessel proposal must fit both loading and discharge, including the practical arrangements for moving cargo into storage.

For successive supplies, explain the expected purchasing rhythm and the approval process for a new source. A clear distinction between a trial shipment and an established requirement helps frame the first proposal. Production availability and freight remain subject to confirmation for each shipment, even when the technical profile has previously been accepted.
